INDIAN SILK PHUKARI this finely embroidered silk shawl or head scarf is from the Punjab in northern India and dates from the early 20th century. Phukari (flower work) items are often made by a mother for future use in ceremonial occasions for her daughter, including marriage. They are among the most prized Punjabi embroideries. Reference 2253. Size 173 x 122cms. 5ft.8in. x 4ft. Euros 350.

The principal centres of weaving are Madrid, Seville and Cuenca and it is from the latter that this piece originates. It is old and in perfect condition. Reference 1788.
